ALLIGATORS
   An alligator is part of the reptile animal group. It lives in a gator hole or alligator den found in the ground in the southern part of the United States. 
   The alligator eats any meat it can get its jaws on. 
   It is dark green and has a thick skull to protect itself. It has a big jaw to kill its prey.
   It is born from an egg, and it takes 65 days to hatch. It can lay up to 45 eggs at a time. 
   The alligator is interesting because it looks neat.

ANTS
   The ant is part of the insect animal group. It lives everywhere. 
   The ant eats dead insects and other small foods.
   It looks like a small alien. The ant is black or red. It is the size of a human tooth a snowman shape the Queen ant has wings. It has six legs.
   It is born in a larvae and then grows into a full ant. 
   The ant is interesting because it can crawl up walls and they get to dig.

ARMADILLOS
   The armadillo is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in central South America and southern North America. 
   The armadillo eats bugs and leaves. 
   Its skin looks like armor. Its color may be yellowish, brown, or gray.
   It is born of two sets of twins. It is like a little adult when it is born. 
   The armadillo is interesting because a few days after it is born the armadillos skin hardens.

BADGERS
   The badger is a part of the weasel family in the mammal animal group. It lives in grasslands to mountains found in North America. 
   The badger eats rodents, lizard, birds, and insects.
   It is furry with reddish to grayish fur, four legs, long claws, and a broad body.
   They are born live from their mother, and then grow for several months. The mom then leaves so they can grow into an adult. 
   The badger is interesting because it is an expert digger.

BEAVERS
   The beaver is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in a lodge made of sticks and mud. The lodges are in rivers located in forested areas in North America.
   The beaver eats bark, roots, plants, and fruits.
   It is brown, with webbed feet, and a flat tail. 
   It is born alive.
   The beaver is interesting because it chops down trees with its teeth.

BOA CONSTRICTORS 
   The boa constrictor is part of the reptile animal group. It lives in holes and trees and is found in Central and South America.
   The boa constrictor eats mainly birds and small mammals. 
   They are one of the most beautiful reptiles in the world. It has scales and is the shape of a tube. It is as thick as a grapefruit.
   It is born by laying eggs and then grows up to 6 feet and lives up to 25 to 30 years.
   The boa constrictor is interesting because it kills its food by coiling around it and suffocating it.

CHAMELEONS
   The chameleon is a part of the reptile animal group. It lives in the forests found in Africa and Madagascar.
   The chameleon eats insects and grasses.
   It is short and flat looking. It may have three horns, and eyes that stick out. It also has claw like feet and a tail that can pick up things.
   It is hatched as one of the thirty to forty eggs the mother lays yearly.
   The chameleon is interesting because it can change its color to match its surroundings.

CHEETAHS
   The cheetah is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in the Saharan Desert found in Africa.
   The cheetah eats gazelles and zebras. It is the fastest animal on earth.
   It is orange with black dots. 
   Two to four babies are born at one time.
   The cheetah is interesting because it is very fast.

CHIMPANZEES
   The chimpanzee is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in the forests and found in Africa. 
   The chimpanzee eats fruits and vegetables. 
   It is a pinkish color with black hair, and bare skin on its face, ears and white tail tufts. 
   It is born two babies at a time and then grows to about fifteen pounds and four feet tall. 
   The chimpanzee is interesting because they have some abilities, such as smiling, laughing, being happy and sad.

COCKROACHES
   The cockroach is part of the insect animal group.  It lives all around the world. 
   The cockroach eats about anything. 
   It is the size of your pointer finger. It has six legs and at least eighteen knees.
   The cockroach is interesting because it can hold its breath for 40 minutes.

CRABS
   The crab is part of the crustacean animal group.  It lives in the sand found near the oceans all around the world. 
   It eats a small thing called plankton.
   It is a round shape with 4 legs on each side of its body and two claws in front. It is usually a reddish color. 
   It is born up to 2 million at a time, but not all of them survive. 
   The crab is interesting because they are good to eat.

CROCODILES
   The Australian crocodile is part of the reptile animal group. It lives in swamps, salt water, and fresh water found in Australia.
   The crocodile eats fish, crab, and larger animals. 
   It is scaly, rough, and greenish brown. It is shaped like a big lizard, and has short, strong legs.
It is born from an egg, and the female grows from 6 to 7 years, and the male grows 12 to 16 years to adulthood.
   The crocodile is interesting because it is the world's largest reptile.

DOLPHINS
   Dolphins are part of the mammal animal group.  Dolphins live in the ocean and can be found all around the world. 
   Dolphins eat fish, squid, and octopus. 
   The dolphin has anywhere from 12-200 teeth. Dolphins are from 4-20 feet long. Dolphins swim at 22 miles per hour. 
   Dolphin babies are born live then the mom stays with her young.
   The dolphin is interesting because it can jump 16 feet into the air.

EAGLES, BALD 
   The bald eagle is part of the bird animal group.  It lives along water such as rivers or seas found in North America and British Columbia. 
   The bald eagle eats fish and other small animals. 
   With dark feathers on its body, the bald eagle has white feathers on its head--making it look 'bald.' It has a 6-½ foot wingspan. 
   It is born from eggs with two eggs laid at a time.
   The eagle is interesting because it likes cold weather.

ELEPHANTS
   The elephant is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in the plains found in Africa and India.
  The elephant eats grass, leaves, and fruit. 
  It is very tall, and it is gray.

FOXES
   The fox is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in the forest. 
   The fox eats anything it can find dead or alive, but its favorite food is mice.
   The fox is brown and has four legs. The fox can weigh fifteen pounds or more. 
   It is born blind for 3 to 7 days. 
   The fox is interesting because it can have three to eight pups.

GIRAFFES
   The giraffe is part of the mammal group.
   The giraffe eats leaves and apricot trees.
   It is white with brown spots and has a long neck. It has is 17 feet tall and weighs 3,960 pounds. (It has four feet and is born six feet tall).
   The mother giraffe usually has only one giraffe born at a time.
   The giraffe is interesting because it sleeps standing up.

GORILLAS
   The gorilla is part of the mammal animal group. They are found in the western lowlands of almost every continent. 
   The gorilla eats mostly plant foods like shoots and fruits, but it also enjoys insects. 
   It is black with a little bit of dry skin. The gorilla can weigh up to 400 pounds. Its feet look like hands. 
   It is born live, but the mother only has one baby at a time. It then grows up with training from its mother to live on its own in the world.
   The gorilla is interesting because it uses its feet for hands and its hands for feet. It eats bamboo with its feet!!!

GRASSHOPPERS
   The grasshopper is part of the insect animal group.
   The grasshopper eats birds, beetles, rodents, and spiders.
   It is an olive-green color; its body is covered with a hard exoskeleton. It is eleven centimeters long. It has two pairs of wings and six legs.
   The babies are born by the grasshopper laying eggs, and then they grow wings and organs.
   The grasshopper is interesting because it can hop, walk, and fly.

HIPPOPOTAMUS
   The hippopotamus is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in rivers, lakes, and big muddy puddles found in Africa.
   The hippopotamus eats plants.
   It is fat, blue and gray with a pink belly. It also has small legs.
   The hippopotamus is interesting because its mouth can open four feet wide.

HONEYBEES
   The honeybee is part of the insect animal group. It lives in almost every part of the world. 
   Honeybees eat nectar and pollen off of flowering plants. 
   Honeybees are small, with clear wings they have 6 legs. Their fur is yellow and black. 
   Honeybees are born from eggs laid by the queen bee.
   Honeybees are interesting because they have stingers to protect themselves from predators.

IGUANAS
   The iguana is part of the reptile animal group. It lives in the tropical forests and found from Mexico to Southern Brazil. 
   The iguana eats plants, birds, and small animals. It is green, has a long tail, skinny legs, and scaly skin.
   Iguanas lay up to thirty eggs and are born in two months and then they grow to be seven to ten inches long. 
   Some iguanas are interesting because they can change colors.

JAGUARS
   The jaguar is part of the mammal animal group. It lives near water in forests, found in the southwest United States, southern Mexico and central South America.
   The jaguar eats fish, turtles, snakes, deer, monkeys, and armadillos. 
   It is black, white, and gold. 
   The jaguar is interesting because its roar is not like a lion. It makes more or a growl and a grunt.

KANGAROOS
    The kangaroo is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in the grasslands found in Australia.
   The kangaroo eats lots of grasses and plants, and they don’t need much water. 
   They are brown and furry, their faces are usually gray. Some are red, but not all of them. Their tails are used for jumping. 
   When is born, it stays in its mother's pouch until it is 5-6 months old. 
   The kangaroo is interesting because they grow up in a pouch and they can hop so high.

KOALAS
   The koala is part of the mammal animal group. It is a marsupial which means it carries its young in a pouch. It lives in eucalyptus groves found in southeastern Australia.
   The koala eats eucalyptus leaves.
   It has an ash colored fur with a white patch on its chest. The males are always bigger than the female.
   It is born live and stays in its mother's pouch for the early months of its life.
   The koala is interesting because it does not have to take a drink. It gets all its moisture from the eucalyptus leaves.

KOALAS II
   The koala is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in gum trees and is found in Southeastern Australia.

LIONS
   The lion is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in grassy plains, woodlands, and semi deserts. It is found in Africa, Europe, and India.
   The lion eats zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, antelope, and warthogs.
   It is a big cat that weighs 330-550 pounds.  Its hair is golden brown and it has four legs. 
   It is born live from its mother.
   The lion is an interesting animal because it is very fast. It uses his speed to kill his prey.

LOBSTERS
   The lobster is part of the crustaceans animal group. It lives in the sea along the North American coasts.
   The lobster eats worms, snails, and mussels. 
   It is hard, red, long oval shaped, with crooked, pointy legs. 
   It is born out of an egg, which barely visible for us.
   The lobster is interesting because it grows by a molting shell.

OCTOPUSES
   The octopus is part of the invertebrate animal group. It lives in the ocean found off the western coast of Florida. 
   The octopus eats crustaceans and mollusks. 
   It has eight tentacles and hundreds of suckers. Octopuses are totally deaf.
   Octopus lay up to 150,000 eggs in two weeks. 
   The octopus is interested because it has an eye on each side of its head.

OWLS
   The owl is a part of the bird animal group. It lives in tropical and sub-arctic regions of the world and also on many oceanic islands. 
   The owl eats mostly small mammals. 
   It has two legs, 2 wings, feathers, and mostly brown feathers. 
   It is born by eggs. 
   The owl is interesting because it hunts at night for prey.

OWLS, SNOWY
   The snowy owl is part of the bird animal group. It lives in Arctic and likes icy lakes, open spaces, tundra, and grasslands. 
   The snowy owl eats voles, shrews, hares, and small birds. 
    It is all white in the winter, but in summer it is brownish with spots and stripes. It is shaped like an owl and about the size of a vulture. 
    The snowy owl lays 8 to 10 eggs. Eggs are laid on hummocks or on the ground because there are no trees in the Arctic. 
   Snowy owls are interesting because they sometimes land in airports.

PANDAS
   The panda is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in bamboo forests and mountains found in China. 
   The panda eats bamboo. 
   It is black and white. It has small eyes. It has a fat round fluffy stomach. It is the size of a young human.
   It is born live, just one cub. The mother cares for it. Pandas live to be about 35 years old.
   Pandas are interesting because they chirp, moan, make goat sounds, and bark, and squeal.

PELICANS, BROWN 
   The brown pelican is part of the bird animal group. It lives along the coastlines found in North and South America. 
   The brown pelican eats mostly fish.
   It is brown with a big bill. 
   Two or three eggs are laid at a time and hatch into pelicans about a month later. 
   The brown pelican is interesting because its wingspread is about seven feet wide.

POLAR BEARS
     The polar bear is part of the mammal animal group. It lives on the ice and is found in the Arctic. It is a very good swimmer. 
     The polar bear eats seals, seabirds, berries, and fish. 
     Its skin is black but its fur is white. It walks on four legs. It is shaped like a big dog without a tail and is about the size of a baby elephant. When a polar bear stands, it is taller than a person. 
     The females dig a den, then they go in it and have 1-3 babies in December or January. 
     The polar bear is interesting because it can run 15 miles per hour.

PORCUPINES
The porcupine is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in wooded regions of northern North America.
   The porcupine eats only plants. It likes grasses, dandelions, and water plants. In the winter, it spends most of its time in the tops of trees and eats the bark and twigs of the trees.
   The porcupine has a small head, short legs, and a rounded shape. Its body is covered inlong quills that protect it from enemies. These quills are hiddedn under thick fur, but pop up when the procupine is scared. There can be over 30,000 quills on its body.
   Usually only one porcupine is born at a time and usually in spring or summer. The baby is called a 'porcupette' and is born with quills. The quills are soft at first and get hard within a few hours of birth. 
   The porcupine is interesting because once the quills stick in its enemy, the quills get bigger and work themselves deeper into the enemy. It is important to remove the quills as soon as possible.

PRAIRIE DOGS 
   The prairie dog is a part of mammal animal group. It lives on the prairies in prairie dog towns found in the United States or in Mexico. 
   The prairie dog eats grasses, herbs, roots, seeds, and leafy plants. 
   It looks like a squirrel with a short black tipped tail, brownish tan fur, large eyes, and short legs. 
   It is born blind, with no fur, 2 to 10 pups at a time. It lives for 3 to 4 years.
   Prairie dogs are interesting because they greet each other in the form of a kiss.

PRAYING MANTISES 
   The praying mantis is part of the insect group. The praying mantis lives in forests found all over the world.
   The praying mantis eats different kinds of insects.
   It is green, thin, narrow, and is the size of your finger. 
   It is born by the female in a Styrofoam-like case that holds 200 eggs and then they grow to adults.
   The female is interesting because she is bigger than the male.

PUFFINS 
   The puffin is part of the bird animal group. It lives in the open sea and on the rocky coasts found along the Arctic. 
   The puffin eats fish.
   It is black and white. It is a small, round-bodied auk with a large head. It has short legs.
   The female lays 1 egg. Both parents incubate the egg for 40 to 43 days. 
   The puffin is interesting because its flight is strong and fast.

RACCOONS
   The raccoon is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in wooded areas, treeless areas, or abandoned barns found in North America and South America. 
   The raccoon eats frogs, fish, crayfish, other freshwater animals, grasshoppers and mice. 
   It has a mask around its eyes and rings around its tail. It is a furry animal that has a bushy tail.
   It is born alive and it is blind. It lives with its mother until its first winter.
   The raccoon is interesting because its tail may grow as long as fifteen inches.

RATTLESNAKES
   The western diamondback rattlesnake is part of the reptile animal group. It lives in grassy fields and is found in the southwest United States.
   The western diamondback rattlesnake eats small rodents such as: birds, rabbits, and almost any small animal that can be eaten whole. 
   Its skin has scales. It is gold with brown diamonds. Its body is long and thick. It does not have legs.
   It is born live and then grows to full adult at around 60 inches.
   The western diamondback rattlesnake is interesting because its deadly bite is more dangerous than any other North American reptile.

RHINOCEROS
   The rhinoceros is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in tropical bush lands, grass land, and savannah found in Africa.
   Rhinoceros eats stems, branches, twigs, and leaves.
   It is very big weighing, from 1,750 to 3,000 pounds. They have hooked lips. It is born live. 
   The black rhino is interesting because it is not black at all. It is called black because of the dirt that covers it.

SEA TURTLES 
   The sea turtle is part of the reptile animal group. It lives in salt water found in all the oceans.
   The sea turtle eats fish and small animals such as birds.
   It is scaly and green and its arms and legs are like flippers.
   It is born from eggs. The mother will lay up to 200 eggs at a time on the beach where she was born.
   The sea turtle is interesting because it could live up to 100 years and could weigh up to 1500 pounds.

SEALS
   The western Atlantic harbor seal is part of the mammal group. It lives in the ocean found around the Canadian Arctic and Greenland. 
   The Harbor seal eats fish. 
   The seal has a sleek, gray, rounded body with flippers. 
   It is born with 15% of its mother's weight. It can crawl and swim after an hour of birth. The pups leave their mother after they are weaned. 
   The seal is an interesting animal because people kill so many seals each year for oil.

SHARKS
   The nurse shark is part of the fish animal group. It lives in the oceans around the world. 
   Nurse sharks eat dolphins, seals, sharks, and other fish. 
   The female sharks can be up to 4-5 feet long and the males can go up to 12-15 feet long. Their scaly skin is gray and rough. The teeth of the females are as long as 5 inches.  The male teeth are as long as 12 inches. The teeth on both are sharp as a knife. 
   The parents of the shark leave their many babies when they are born so they can get on without their parents. 
   The shark is interesting because it is so scary.

SKUNKS
   The skunk is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in underground dens and hollow trees found in North America and South America. 
   The skunk eats mice, rats, and other small animals.
   It has black and white fur and a fluffy tail. 
   It is born live. It has four to five babies at a time.
   The skunks are interesting because they smell with an odor to protect them.

SQUIRRELS, FLYING 
   The flying squirrel is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in tree in the forests found in North America. 
   The flying squirrel eats maple sap. They like it so much they sometimes fall in it and drown.
   Its fur is gray. They are normally small and have hairy legs. They are strong because that's how they glide. 
   It is born alive. The mother takes good care of the babies.
   The flying squirrel is cool because it is called the flying squirrel but it actually glides.

TARANTULAS
   The tarantula is part of the spider animal group. It lives in warm climates found in the southern and western United States.
   The tarantula eats small birds, bugs, lizards, frogs, and other spiders. 
   It is hairy, brown and black, and oval shaped. Its legs can spread to 7 inches. 
   It is born in eggs and grows by shedding its skin as its gets bigger.
   The tarantula is interesting because it can live up to 20 years!

TASMANIAN DEVILS 
   The Tasmanian devil is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in coastal scrubs, eucalyptus forests, and near human settlements found in Tasmania, an island south of Australia. 
   The Tasmanian devil eats animals: the meat, fur, and bone, leaving nothing to pollute the environment. 
   It is usually black with a white “collar” or patch around the neck. It is smaller than a terrier dog, and weighs 6 and 8 kilograms. 
   Thirty to fifty at a time are born live but blind and deaf, growing in the mother's pouch. It can live to be 8 years if another Tasmanian devil does not eat it.
   The Tasmanian devil is interesting because of it fights to protect its food and often has bald patches of fur and battle scars.

TERMITES
   The termite is part of the insect animal group. It lives in groups and is found in warm wooden places. 
   The termite eats woodwork in houses, books, and furniture, but also likes sugar cane and orange trees. 
   The king and queen termites are dark colored with hard bodies and wings. The workers are small, blind, and have white soft bodies. The soldiers are blind also, but have strong jaws and legs.
   The baby termite hatches from an egg and then grows into either a worker, soldier, or royal termite.
   Termites are interesting because they work together in their colonies.

TIGERS
   The tiger is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in the tropical forests from open woodlands to swamps found in Turkey, China, Korea, and Russia. Some are found in India and parts of south East Asia. 
   It has orange fur with black stripes. 
   They are born alive.
   Tigers are interesting because they are all over the country of China or in other countries like Russia, Korea, or Korea.

TREE FROGS 
   The tree frog is a part of the amphibian animal group.  It lives in trees near ponds, rivers, and lakes found in North and South America. 
   The tree frog eats insects and other small animals. 
   It is between 1 to 5 inches long.  It is usually green, but can change colors to look like it forest surroundings.
   The tree frog is interesting because it has sticky pads on its feet which makes climbing trees easy.

TURTLES
   The turtle is part of the reptile animal group. It lives in the wetlands found all over the world. 
   The turtle eats beetles, maggots, larvae, fish, plants, leeches, snails, insects, and tadpoles.
   It has green skin that is attached to a shell. The shell can be green or brown. The shell has scales on it. 
  The turtle is born from eggs. Then they grow by themselves using their natural instincts. 
  The turtle is interesting because it can grow to be over 100 years old. They have been around for over two million years.

WALRUSES
   The walrus is part of the mammal animal group.
   It lives in the Alaskan and Chukchi Sea, Bristol Bay, and the Bering Sea.
   The walrus eats clams, snails, mussels, and forty other small animals that live under the sea.
   It is really long and weighs a lot. It has red skin, long tusks, a short neck, a long mustache, and big flippers.
   The walrus is interesting because it can swim in water as fast as you can run on land!

WHALES, HUMPBACK 
   The humpback whale is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in the ocean near islands. 
   The humpbacks are baleen whales which means they suck in water and trap their food in a filter. They eat plankton, small fish, sardines, and other fish.
   They are 50 feet long which is as big as a school bus. They are mostly black or gray or brown. On the belly and under the flippers, they are white. They have a small hole at the tip of them called a blowhole.
   Calves are born in warm shallow water. 
   The humpback is interesting because it makes pretty noises that sound like songs.

WOLVES
   The wolf is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in the forests found in North America.
   The wolf eats deer, caribou, elk, moose, berries, birds, beaver, fish, and insects.
   The wolf is very big. It can be black, gray, white, or brown. It has four legs and is very furry. The wolf looks a lot like a big dog. 
   It is born live and can have up to 10 babies. The puppies stay with the pack most of their lives. 
   The wolf is interesting because it can live in very cold weather without getting even a little cold.

WOODCHUCKS
   The woodchuck is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in a underground burrow found in a pasture or meadow. 
   The woodchuck eats grass, clovers, grain, apples, lettuce, and cabbages.
   It is fat and chestnut brown. The woodchuck's claws are sharp and powerfully long.
   It is born live and has 4 babies. 
   Woodchuck are interesting because they make a whistling sound and are often called  whistling pigs.

WORMS
   The earthworm is part the insect animal group. It lives in soft ground and is found around the world. 
   The earthworms eat dirt, but will also eat many other things. 
   It is slick, brown, tiny, long, fat. It is the size of a finger.
   It is born live from the mother worm and then grows really fast. 
   The earthworm body is interesting because it is really slick and it likes the dark.

ZEBRAS
   The zebra is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in grasslands found in East Africa.
   The zebra eats grasses, hay, and alfalfa. 
   It is black and white and has bold stripes all the way around them. It looks like a horse. 
   It is born alive. The zebra will have one foal a year. It leaves its mother when the next foal is born. 
   The zebra is interesting because it has a round belly that holds a lot of food.
