Student Activities and Resources
- Art Service Club
-
The ASC is for students who enjoy art and want to have more
art experiences. They choose to spend a portion of their time
interacting with other members who also value art. The ASC
encourages its members to visit art shows and galleries to learn
about local artists and different styles. The ASC also participates in community art programs, such as the Magic City Art Show
sculpture contest, service projects, murals, fundraisers, artist lectures, and volunteer projects.

- Homewood High School Bands
-
The Honors Band is the premier concert group of the Homewood Patriot Band program. This group performs grade 4-6 literature.
The
Honors band attends district and state festivals every year. The Honors band also performs two community concerts per year.
The Jazz Band is a select group of brass and woodwinds that perform jazz music. The group performs music from rock to swing.
They
study music from many time periods from the 40's to present. The jazz band performs for various community events.
The Patriot Marching Band is the marching unit of the band program. The band attends all high school football games. The
Patriot
Band also marches in the Homecoming Parade, Christmas Parade, and We Love Homewood Day Parade. The group also travels each year to
march in a national or international event.
The Homewood Percussion Ensemble is made up of percussion students from the instrumental program at Homewood High School.
The
group
performs with the Honors and Symphonic Band. They present an end of the year concert in May.
The Symphonic Band is one of instrumental groups in the Homewood Patriot Band program. This group performs grade 3 and 4 band
literature. The Symphonic band attends district and state festivals every year. The Symphonic band performs two concerts per year.

- International Club

International Club promotes interest in world languages and cultures taught here as well as the languages and cultures of our
students. Anyone can join International Club, not just world language students.

- International Thespian Club

The International Thespian Society (ITS) is a club which focuses on the recognition of students involved in Theatre Arts. Actors,
designers, directors, technicians, and writers are accepted as members after earning points for being involved in the required
amount of productions. We have annual fundraisers and community service programs.

- BETA Club

The National Beta Club is a non-secret, non-profit, academic,
leadership and service club for students between the elementary
and senior high grades. This organization holds academic
excellence at a high standard requiring students to maintain a 3.4 average.

- Student Government Association

Student Government Association is a group of students who represent the student body. This group of students works to plan events
that benefit the entire student body such as the Homecoming dance, the canned food drive, the blood drive, Powder Puff football,
etc.

- DECA
- DECA is for students interested in marketing, retailing, and
management. The Homewood DECA Club competes in district, state, and
national competitions.

- Heritage Panel
-
Heritage Panel is sponsored here at the school by Unity Club and is made up of about 25 students and 5 sponsors. The National
Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ), a national non-profit human relations organization, sponsors Heritage Panels at schools
all over Alabama. Members are invited, in groups of 4-7, to classrooms to start dialogue about how they have been discriminated
against and what each of us can do to stop it. Each student on the panel shares a personal story of how they or someone they know
has been discriminated against. Then the audience shares how it felt to listen to their peers. stories. The main goal is to get
people thinking about how they can change their own actions to create a truly unified society.

- Honor Societies
- Students who distinguish themselves in the area of scholarship,
service, leadership, and character may become eligible for one or more
of Homewood High School's chartered honor societies.
The National Honor Society
- The Patricia Ragland Tolbert Chapter of the National Honor Society recognizes the academic talents of Homewood High
School's top juniors and seniors. Membership is based on the qualities of scholarship (a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher),
service, leadership and character. Members must attend meetings, maintain academic standards, be involved in individual and
chapter service and leadership projects and remain upstanding in character. It is an honor to be selected and to serve in this
organization. Homewood administrators and teachers salute these outstanding students. We encourage all Homewood High Students
to uphold the ideals of the National Honor Society.

- Air Force Junior ROTC Program

The mission of Air Force Junior ROTC Program is to develop
citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and
community. It affords students the opportunity to participate in an environment where they learn and practice communication skills,
the necessity of teamwork and the art of leadership and life skills. We want our cadets to make a difference in their lives, their
community, and their country.

- Key Club

Key Club is a service organization open to any student upon application. Key Club is the high school extension of Kiwanis
International. It meets every Tuesday morning. Members are expected to perform a minimum of 50 hours of community service. The
Homewood High School Key Club is very active in the state Key Club organization and participates in its annual state convention.

- Debate Team
- The team participates in speech, drama, and debate competitions
throughout the United States. Members earn degrees of membership based
on excellence in competition and years of experience.

- Fellowship of Christian Athletes

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes meets weekly to worship God and to challenge students to receive Jesus Christ as their savior.
FCA is open to all students regardless of athletic participation and actively seeks the involvement of both students and teachers.

- FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of
America)
-
Family, Career, and Community Leaders is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in
family and consumer sciences education in public and private school through grade 12
- Peer Helpers
-
Homewood High School Peer Helpers is an organization of high school students who pledge to be drug, tobacco and alcohol free. They
sign contracts at the beginning of the school year shortly after their retreat/training. Retreat/training is mandatory and takes
place in August at Camp World Song. Peer Helpers go through a selection process involving the advisory team and faculty. There is
an application process that begins in April followed by an interview. Once selection is made, there is a membership reception. One
of the biggest platforms is Red Ribbon Week in October. In addition, these students serve as mentors for our elementary students as
well as mentors at the high school for our new students.

- Yearbook

The students who are selected to be members of the yearbook staff are willing to take on the responsibility of creating the school's
yearbook. During the year the staff learns the basics of yearbook layout and design, which include feature writing, digital photo
processing, and teamwork. Teacher recommendations are required.

Unity Club is a club that promotes understanding and acceptance of various cultures. One of the main goals is to acknowledge our
own biases/prejudices, overcome them, and accept people for who they are, whether or not we agree with their beliefs.
