CREDIT INFORMATION:
 Graduation Requirements:  24-25 Carnegie Units required, depending on diploma type.

  •  To include at the minimum:  4 English; 4 Social Studies; 4 Math; 4 Science; PE, Health, Fine Arts, and Computer Applications
  •  Must pass all required sections of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam (AHSGE)
  • Four differentiated diplomas according to curriculum: Advanced, General, Credit Based and Occupational
GRADING SYSTEM:
The grading system at Homewood High School is based on a 4.0 grade point scale  with A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, and F = 0 quality points with the exception of Advanced Placement Courses.  Advanced Placement courses receive 1 additional quality point. Pre-AP courses receive .5 additional quality point. Honors courses will follow the customary 4.0 scale though taught on an advanced level.

ACADEMIC PROGRESS:
Report cards issued each nine weeks.  Interim reports issued at midpoint in each grading period.

CURRICULUM:
Math Team courses are honors level. Pre-AP courses are offered in English 9 and 10.  Advanced Placement (AP) courses available in Art, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Calculus, English, French, Photography, Physics, Psychology, Spanish, French, United States and European History and US Government.  In addition to academic courses, there are career-technical programs in FACS and Marketing Education. Other programs include:  Aerospace Education (AFJROTC - science-based instruction), Fine Arts, Physical Education and Special Education courses.

STUDENT LIFE: 
Many activities are offered for students outside the regular school curriculum, and most students are involved in these, i.e., marching band, dance, choral music, show choirs, drama, debate, athletic programs which include team sports for both male and female students.  There are a large and varied number of clubs and organizations aimed at students' interests.

OTHER FEATURES: The Media Center contains 15,000 volumes, 107 pieces of audio-visual equipment and 1456 catalogued films and recordings.
Microcomputers and thin-client devices for student use are housed throughout the building with a mobile lab of thin-client devices, workstations and lookup stations located in the Media Center. Student computing needs are addressed using the 19 "mobile labs" of networked, wireless laptops at the point of use in the classroom.

Athletic facilities include a baseball field, softball field, soccer field, practice fields, football stadium, two gyms, and a field house with weightlifting and wrestling rooms, team meeting rooms, coaches' offices, and trainers' rooms.

Staffed during and after-school learning assistance program (ICU-Intellectual Care Unit).

School Newsletter (Open Line), Yearbook (Heritage), online literary magazine (Menagerie), online student newspaper (The Patriot Press), online curriculum guide, student handbook, and a student directory.
