Jimicka Alexander

I am excited to begin my twenty-seventh year in education serving as the sixth-grade counselor at Homewood Middle School. My primary role is to help facilitate the transition from elementary school to middle school. I help students balance the demands of school, family and friends.

I started my career in education as a high school English teacher and taught 12 years before transitioning from Homewood High School in 2007 to the field of school counseling.

I completed my undergraduate studies at Alabama State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Language Arts Education in 1996. In 1998, I received my Master of Arts degree in English from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2002, I acquired my Educational Leadership Certification from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2004, I became an Educational Specialist and received my Ed.S. degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2007, I continued my studies further and received my Masters in School Guidance and Counseling from The University of West Alabama.

My personal goal as a school counselor is to assist students and their families in the development of academic and personal excellence, in making healthy school and community connections, and preparing students to become respectful and contributing citizens of the community.  I am a listener and helper to all of my students and to their teachers and parents as well.  If I can ever assist you in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I look forward to meeting you and helping you have a great middle school experience!
