March 23, 2020
Although this is not a traditional spring break for our community, we hope you are having a fun and safe time with your family. Please see the updates below regarding Covid-19:
Device and Connectivity Form: As our leadership team and staff continue to prepare for eLearning should it become necessary, we are asking all parents to fill out the Preparation for eLearning - Device and Connectivity Form by the end of the day Friday, March 27. (Preparación para eLearning en ESPAÑOL)
State Testing: Alabama State Superintendent of Education Dr. Eric Mackey announced that the U.S. Department of Education has approved a standardized testing waiver for public schools. This means Alabama schools will not have to give state assessments or standardized tests to students for the remainder of this school year.
HCS Playgrounds: Following the guidance of the Alabama Department of Public Health, all HCS elementary school playgrounds are closed. At this time, the elementary fields remain open, but we encourage our families to continue following the guidance of public health officials during the school closure. It is important to minimize interactions with large groups, maintain social distancing, and focus on handwashing and other measures that help stop the spread of germs.
Student Meals During Spring Break: During Spring Break (March 23-27), HCS will be distributing meals again on Wednesday between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Three breakfast and three lunch meals will be included for each child age 18 and under. Please drive-thru the carpool line in the front of the school. Homewood Middle School is located at 395 Mecca Ave.
Our schools are scheduled to reopen on Monday, April 6, but please know our leadership team is preparing alternate plans if the Covid-19 pandemic forces an extension of the closure. The Alabama Education Task Force has been meeting to discuss the next steps for public schools after April 6. As Homewood City Schools receives more information, we will share that with you via email and our website.
