HCS Chromebook Checkout

  • April 2, 2020

    Homewood Families,

Thank you for completing the eLearning Device survey!  We want the school devices to spend the next several weeks in the locations where they are needed most. If your child needs a device, please make arrangements to be on-site for our drive-through device pick-up this week. Keep in mind that if you have multiple children enrolled in the district, it is not necessary that each student have a device as one can be shared between at least two children. Also, please know that we will not be hosting school in real time; children will have the opportunity to connect and work on assignments at the times that parents determine to be the best fit for the family - which we understand could change daily.

If you need to check out a used Chromebook, below are things we would like for you to know in advance to help make the process safe and efficient for everyone:

    • Only students who are currently enrolled in the district will be able to log in to the HCS Chromebook.
    • The Chromebooks are in compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) so that certain content is blocked.
    • The Chromebooks will have to be returned in the same condition in which they were received.
    • Each campus has a pick-up schedule (below). You will need a sheet of paper and a pen or marker with you.

    Directions for Checkout:

    1. Remain in your cars. No one from the public may be allowed into the buildings.
      • Remember that the school zone is a cell phone-free zone for the safety of all passengers and staff volunteers.
    2. Keep your window rolled up until it is your turn to validate enrollment and receive a device package.
    3. Hold up your sheet that you should make in advance showing the child’s last name and first name printed large enough to be read by the staff volunteers. Example:  SMITH, SHERRY. Note that for HK students, the carpool tag needs to be visible or the instructions described for other Homewood students should be followed.
    4. Check the Homewood City Schools’ barcode on the Chromebook against the number on the envelope provided to confirm a match.
    5. Use your own pen/marker to write the child’s first and last name on the envelope provided.
    6. Be sure you have an agreement and device care information sheet in your package. To read the  Homewood City Schools Device Check-out Agreement in advance, click here.  By leaving with the device, you are agreeing to the terms of the enclosed.
    7. Be sure that you are leaving with a Chromebook and 2-piece power cord/charger.
    8. Keep your envelope and its contents together so that you may return everything in the same envelope when the device return date is confirmed. Please do not remove any labels/inventory stickers from the Chromebook.
