Safe & Healthy Homewood Students
-
It is the goal of Homewood City Schools to educate and empower all students to maximize their unique potential. In an effort to meet this goal, Homewood City Schools has adopted a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). The MTSS model is designed to address our students’ academic, behavioral, and foundational wellness needs using a continuum of supports, including a proactive approach to address students’ needs in all three areas.
We have established systematic screening practices and a continuum of supports, ranging from universal, broad-based strategies to targeted and individualized interventions. The MTSS model provides for: primary prevention (Tier 1 supports for all), secondary prevention (Tier 2 supports for some), and tertiary interventions and supports (Tier 3 supports for a few). As a part of this process, schools have developed school-wide expectations and procedures for teaching, monitoring, and reinforcing these expectations.
In addition, schools have developed common goals for all stakeholders – students, teachers, parents, and administrators. The goal is to create a safe, positive learning environment including the accurate detection of students who need additional support beyond Tier 1 prevention efforts and then providing these students with additional Tier 2 and Tier 3 evidence-based supports.
