ParentSquare is a unified, secure, and easy-to-use communication tool that allows us to streamline our communication with our parents. Whether it’s important announcements, updates from a teacher, or upcoming events, ParentSquare is our one-stop-shop for staying connected with everything happening in Homewood City Schools.
With ParentSquare families will be able to:
- Receive messages from school via email, text or mobile app.
- Choose to receive information as it comes (Instant) or all at once at around 6:00 pm (Daily Digest).
- Communicate in your preferred language.
- Send two-way texts with automated translation between staff and families.
Tips for Families:
- Download the App! - It’s easy to stay in the loop with the ParentSquare app. Download it now for iOS or Android devices.
- Activate Your Account - Sign up on parentsquare.com or via the ParentSquare app. (You must use the email address or cell phone number provided during school registration.)
- Set Preferences - If you’re using the app, select the menu in the top left of the screen to set your language preferences and how often you want to receive notifications. If you’re using the website, select your name in the upper right.
- Sync Your Calendar - Select ‘Events’ from the bottom of the screen in the app and then ‘Subscribe’ to sync district, school, classroom or group calendar to your phone’s calendar.
- Find Teachers - Select ‘School Directory’ from the ‘More’ menu at the bottom right of the app for the names and positions of teachers and staff. If you’re using the website, select ‘Directory’ from the left sidebar.
- Comment or Reply - You can select ‘Comment’ in the app or on the website to privately ask a question about the post that your teacher or school sent. Comments and replies in ParentSquare are not publicly posted.
- Get in Touch - ‘Messages’ on the bottom of the screen in the app (or the sidebar on the website) lets you privately communicate with staff.

What is ParentSquare?
ParentSquare is a unified communications platform. The district and our schools use ParentSquare to communicate with families. This includes emergency messages as well as everyday school information. It provides a safe way for administrators, school principals, teachers, staff, and parents to:
- Send and receive school and class information
- Share pictures and files
- See calendar items
- and much more… all in one centralized place!

Will ParentSquare be used for classroom assignments?
No, ParentSquare is not for classroom assignments. Schoology is still used for assignments and academic content.
However, teachers can use the platform to remind families of due dates or missing assignments if they choose.

Will parents receive notifications from ParentSquare if they do not sign up for ParentSquare?
Yes. All parents and/or guardians are automatically registered to receive notifications through ParentSquare when they enroll their student.
Individuals who do not activate their account in ParentSquare will still receive email and text notifications from Homewood City Schools. They will have limited access to other ParentSquare features, like customizing how and when messages are received.

How can I update my information (email address, phone number)?
If you need to update your contact information, please contact your child's school.

I’m having trouble activating my account. Why am I not receiving a verification email or text message?
Please check your spam folder. The email verification message may have been routed there. For text messages, please text START to 66458 and then request a new verification code.
If the issue persists, please email hbe@homewood.k12.al.us with your name, email, and child's school(s).

Can I use ParentSquare on my mobile device?
Yes! In addition to using ParentSquare’s online portal, you can download the free ParentSquare app to your iPhone or Android mobile device through the App Store or Google Play Store.

I cannot sign into ParentSquare. What is the first step?
If you cannot sign into ParentSquare with your email or phone number, please contact hbe@homewood.k12.al.us to make sure your contact information is correct in our student information system.
