Homewood Student Honored as Class 6A’s Best and Brightest Student Athlete
April 9, 2019 - Homewood City Schools is proud to announce that Homewood High School Senior Will Stone was recognized as one of Alabama's finest scholar-athletes during the 34th annual Bryant-Jordan Student-Athlete Awards Banquet.
The banquet honored 52 Scholar-Athlete regional winners, and Stone was named the overall 2019 6A Class Scholar-Athlete winner.
As a regional winner, Stone was awarded a $3,000 scholarship and a $3,500 scholarship as the 6A Class winner.
At HHS, Stone is a member of the cross-country and track state championship teams and was named the 2018-19 Gatorade Alabama Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year for the second straight season. He has a GPA of 4.33 and will attend Lee University for his undergraduate studies.
Stone is the 10th Homewood High School student to be named a Class Student-Athlete Scholar Winner. Of the 10, HHS has had five students named The Larry D. Striplin, Jr. Scholar-Athlete Winners, the highest honor of the Bryant-Jordan Program.
The Bryant-Jordan Student-Athlete Program was created in 1986 by the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in conjunction with the Alabama High School Athletic Association. One objectives of the program is to recognize and honor Alabama students who have by ability and effort achieved a level of excellence in the areas of academics and athletics that is commensurate with their potential.
